He was an 8-time All-State recipient while attaining All-State in 4 different sports - baseball, basketball, volleyball and track. Baldelli had over 50 Division I scholarship offers in baseball alone and several others in basketball, volleyball and track. Baldelli also excelled in the classroom with a 4.24 GPA. The combination of academics and athletics opened the doors to the most prestigious schools in the country. Rocco accepted a scholarship to Wake Forest University in North Carolina, and only an irresistible offer by the pro scouts would deter him from college. The June 2000 Draft came and Baldelli became the 6th overall selection in the draft. Rocco is now distinguishing himself as the starting centerfielder for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
